Meet Dr. Rainbow Sackey: A Rising Scholar in Media and Communication Studies

Christian Service University (CSU) proudly celebrates Dr. Rainbow Sackey, the 2015 Valedictorian and Best Communication Student, who graduated with a remarkable GPA of 3.99. A proud alumnus, Dr. Sackey embodies academic excellence, leadership, and an enduring commitment to communication and media education.

Dr. Sackey currently serves as a Lecturer and Internship Coordinator at the Department of Journalism and Media Studies, School of Communication and Media Studies, University of Education, Winneba (UEW). A passionate educator and researcher, he uses teaching and research to empower the next generation of journalists and communication professionals in Ghana.

Education and Academic Journey

Dr. Sackey holds a PhD in Communication and Media Studies (2025), an MPhil in the same field (2020), and a BA in Communication Studies from CSU (2015). His PhD research, titled Media Convergence in Praxis: Curriculum and Pedagogical Issues in Journalism Education in Ghana, addresses curriculum gaps in journalism training amidst changing media dynamics. His research interests include media policy, data journalism, media and gender, community media, and new media convergence.

Professional and International Exposure

Dr. Sackey is an advocate for mentorship, research collaboration, and professional engagement in communication education. He volunteered as a teaching assistant during his undergraduate days, demonstrating his deep-rooted passion for academia. He urges CSU’s Department of Communication to strengthen its alumni relations and invest in the growth of its outstanding graduates.

Dr. Sackey was one of ten African journalism educators selected for the prestigious AMAZE scholarship—a month-long training in Germany organized by the Erich Brost Institute of International Journalism (EBI) in 2024.

Publications and Affiliations

Dr. Sackey is the co-author of several scholarly works, including:

  1. Mitigating the Rural–Urban Digital Divide in Ghana
  2. Data Journalism in Africa: A Systematic Review
  3. Research on Media Framing in Ghana

Faith and Service

Dr. Sackey is a devoted Christian, and he serves as a Shepherd at Lighthouse Chapel International, Winneba. He finds joy in reading, writing, and mentoring young minds.
