Christian Service University (CSU) held its academic retreat for staff on Friday, September 4, 2026, under the theme “Transforming the Campus through Environmental Care and Excellent Service Delivery,” setting the tone for a new academic year built around the institution’s differentiation strategy.
Addressing staff at the retreat, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Stephen Banahene, said CSU’s corporate strategy is anchored on differentiation, meaning that every stage of the university’s operations, from admissions through teaching to graduation, must reflect visible value addition that sets the institution apart in a competitive higher education market. He further explained that the retreat’s theme was one practical way the university intends to demonstrate that value addition.
The retreat featured two keynote presentations examining the theme from different angles. Dr. Samuel Sarkodie-Addo, a CSU lecturer, offered a theological perspective, arguing that environmental care and excellent service delivery are two expressions of the same biblical mandate of stewardship rather than separate concerns, and that disorder in the environment reflects a deeper spiritual and cultural attitude rather than a physical failing alone.
Dr. Mrs. Lydia Otoo Amponsah, an environmental scientist from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), followed with a scientific and practical perspective, urging CSU to adopt low-cost interventions such as waste segregation, leak repairs and LED lighting to cut costs, and proposing a Green Campus Committee to sustain the effort beyond the retreat.
The retreat also outlined key expectations for the semester. Faculties were reminded of their responsibilities around course delivery and academic scheduling, while the university’s graduation ceremony was confirmed for November 21, 2026, on campus. Staff were also called to embrace a student-centred approach to duty and to apply cost-saving practices across university dealings.
Closing the retreat, the Vice-Chancellor referenced Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength,” as a reminder to staff that the strength to carry out the semester’s assignments comes from God.
