The Nursing and Midwifery Department of Christian Service University (CSU), led by Mrs. Ernestina Armah, undertook a two-day free health screening outreach in Kumasi in May 2026, as part of the University’s continued commitment to corporate social responsibility.
The outreach, the latest in what has become an annual exercise for the Department, took the University’s healthcare expertise beyond its walls to reach two distinct groups within the wider Kumasi community.
On the first day, the Department held health screening services for inmates at Kumasi Central Prison, offering general health assessments, vital signs monitoring and health education, alongside consultations with healthcare professionals. Free medications were provided based on identified health needs, and basic eye assessments were conducted, with reading glasses distributed to beneficiaries with visual difficulties. The team also facilitated free National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) registration and renewal for inmates.

n the second day, the outreach turned to Atonsu Presbyterian Basic School, where pupils took part in health education sessions on personal hygiene and healthy lifestyles. A dedicated menstrual hygiene session was held for young girls, followed by the distribution of sanitary pads to support their health and dignity. Exercise books were also given out to pupils to support their learning.
The exercise was carried out in collaboration with Jabi Foundation, Healthy Future Initiative Foundation and OhenebaCare Foundation, whose support contributed to the outreach’s success.
The Department has indicated that the health screening outreach will continue as an annual initiative, reflecting CSU’s broader mandate to extend care and service to underserved communities beyond the University’s campus.
