Christian Service University (CSU) has appointed Dr. (Mrs.) Joyce Ama Quartey as Dean of Students and Weekend School Coordinator. The appointment marks the second time Dr. Quartey has held the position, having previously served as Dean of Students between 2009 and 2011.
Affectionately known across campus as Auntie Ama, Dr. Quartey is a familiar and well-respected figure among staff, students and alumni, with a career at CSU spanning over two decades.
A Pioneer of the Business Programme
Dr. Quartey joined the University, then Christian Service University College, in March 2004, as one of three pioneering full-time lecturers brought on board to establish the Bachelor of Business Administration programme, the institution’s first venture beyond theology into secular academic offerings.
Over the years, she has held a wide range of academic and administrative leadership roles, including Head of the Department of Management and General Studies, Dean of the School of Business, and Head of the Department of Accounting and Finance, a position she held for several years. She also previously served as Vice Dean of Students, Chairperson of the Students Scholarship and Bursaries Committee, and Chairperson of the Appeals Committee, among other responsibilities. She currently serves as President of the CSUC Ladies Association (Ladies of Excellence).
Vision for the Office
Speaking on her vision for the Office of the Dean of Students, Dr. Quartey said her goal is to build an inclusive and supportive university community where students are empowered to grow academically, socially and spiritually.
“My vision is to create a vibrant, all-inclusive and supportive environment where students are empowered to achieve their full potential,” she said, adding that student welfare, leadership development and mental wellbeing remain central to her priorities in the role.
She described her leadership approach as anchored in service, integrity and inclusiveness, drawing on principles of student-centered and servant leadership. Dr. Quartey said she also intends to work closely with the Students’ Representative Council to strengthen leadership training and continuity among student executives.
Academic Profile
Dr. Quartey holds a PhD in Finance from the University of New England, Australia, an MSc in Development Finance from the University of Manchester, and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of Cape Coast. Her research interests span corporate finance, microfinance and financial markets and institutions, with several of her published works examining the effects of regulation on the performance and outreach of microfinance institutions in Ghana.
Known for her passion for teaching, Dr. Quartey has supervised and taught both undergraduate and postgraduate students throughout her career, an experience she says has shaped her approach to student mentorship and welfare.
