Christian Service University (CSU) has cut the sod for the construction of a modern student hostel facility at Sabin Akrofrom in the Ashanti Region, marking the formal commencement of a project the University described as a strategic investment in student welfare and academic excellence.
The ceremony, held on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, brought together the Chancellor, Most Rev, Prof. Emmanuel Asante, members of the University Council, Management, traditional authorities, clergy, staff, students, and members of the Sabin Akrofrom community.
In a welcome address, the Acting Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Stephen Banahene, described the project as a strategic investment in student welfare and holistic education. He noted that the provision of a conducive living environment is essential to academic success, adding that the hostel would enhance the student experience while contributing to character formation and community life. He further noted that beyond addressing accommodation challenges, the project is expected to create employment for local artisans and stimulate economic activity within Sabin Akrofrom and its environs.
The Chancellor of the University, Most Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Asante, expressed gratitude for the support of traditional authorities and acknowledged the role of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and the late Nana Kwaku Duah in facilitating access to the land. He commended the University’s Governing Council and Management for their foresight and leadership in undertaking the project within a relatively short period after attaining full university status, and lauded Fidelity Bank Ghana for its financial support.
Highlighting the broader impact, the Chancellor stated that the hostel would not only address the growing demand for student accommodation but also contribute to local economic development through job creation, increased property value, and the growth of small-scale businesses in the area.
The Sabin Akrofromhene, Nana Osei Kofi, expressed appreciation to the University for siting the project in the community and reaffirmed his commitment to safeguarding the land for its intended purpose. He noted that the development would inspire the youth of the area to pursue education and contribute to the transformation of the community.
On behalf of Fidelity Bank Ghana, the Regional Manager, Mr. Augustine Aggrey, described the project as a meaningful investment in the future of education. He emphasised that access to safe and comfortable accommodation is essential for effective learning and reaffirmed the Bank’s commitment to supporting educational infrastructure.
The hostel facility, to be constructed on an 11.5-acre site, will have a capacity of 836 beds. The project has been awarded to ‘Amotec Construction Company’ following an open competitive bidding process and is expected to be completed within 18 to 24 months
