A high powered delegation from the Christian Service University, led by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sam Afrane, has paid a courtesy call on President John Mahama.
The visit was to congratulate the President on his assumption to the high office as President of the Republic, and to discuss matters affecting higher education in Ghana, particularly private universities.
Prof. Afrane expressed concern about Government’s inability to include private universities in the Stress-free Fee Programme for First Year students. He further appealed to Government to consider granting scholarships to Lecturers in private tertiary institutions to pursue Doctorate programmes in order to strengthen the staffing situation in the private universities.
In his response, the President warmly welcomed the CSU delegation, and thanked the University for their prayer support and well wishes.
The President assured the delegation of Government’s willingness to consider the two requests. He tasked the Deputy Minister of Education, Dr. Clement Apaak, who was present at the meeting, to take up the issues for consideration.
The CSU delegation comprising the Pro-VC, Dr. Stephen Banahene, the Registrar, Mr. Andrews K. Doku, Dean of Faculty of Health and Applied Sciences, Dr. Cynthia Akuoko, and the Chaplain, Rev. Anthony Boateng Agyenim; prayed for the President, the Government and the prosperity of the nation.
