The President of the Christian Service University College, Prof. Sam Afrane has disclosed through the media to all stakeholders that starting from September 2023, the institution will embark on a massive and ambitious 50th anniversary celebration that will be climaxed in September 2024 under the theme: “CSUC @ 50: Achievements, Challenges, and Prospects”. This was made known during a media briefing held on Wednesday July 26, 2023 at the CSUC Campus.
Background
CSUC was established in 1974 by WEC missionaries to provide theological education focusing on training pastors and church leaders to promote the Great Commission. After several years of successful theological training, the institution metamorphosed into a liberal arts Christian University College in 2004 extending its tentacles to provide quality research-based and world class tertiary education in business, communication, education, planning, computer science, information technology and nursing. Currently, the University College runs over 10 undergraduate and 7 postgraduate programmes (and still counting) and has made significant strides by training over 8000 men and women who are currently impacting and transforming society.
Besides the intellectual and human resource capacity gains that have receive national and international prominence, the University College has within its walls, seen massive improvement of infrastructure and staff development even though there are still deficits to be addressed. It is against this backdrop that the University College is celebrating its 50th anniversary with the following objectives:
1. to reflect on the past 50 years of success and looking forward to the future;
2. to raise the awareness of CSUC’ s unique history, showcase its growing impact and show how to promote its visibility and positive reputation in Ghana and abroad;
3. leverage on its achievements to mobilize support and resources to step boldly into the next 50 years.
Launching and Highlights of Key Anniversary Activities
The year-long celebration will be officially launched on Friday September 22, 2023 at the CSUC campus. The launch will usher in the major and minor anniversary activities that will be climaxed with a grand durbar in September 2024. In addition, the launch will be used to outdoor the anniversary logo and song. It is expected that the launch will be attended by political, religious, academic, civil society, corporate leaders and alumni who have either directly or indirectly shaped the life and history of the University College in her 50 years journey.
Several activities linked to the objectives of the anniversary have been lined up and would be presented during the launch. Key among them are Conference and Public Lectures on stimulating national issues; Special Anniversary Awards to key stakeholders who have positively impacted the growth of the institution; Naming of Blocks in the University College and sod-cutting and completion of Symbolic Anniversary Projects. As a Christian tertiary institution, the anniversary will be used to build bridges with the Christian Community in the region and beyond.
To facilitate and coordinate the activities of the anniversary, a Central Planning Committee chaired by the Vice President, Dr. Stephen Banahene has been set up in addition to subcommittees on Media & Publicity; History & Documentation; Events & Protocol; Conference and Lectures; International/External Relations; Finance/Fundraising and Anniversary Alumni Mobilization.
Each of these committees has been given specific mandate and framework to operate in a collaborate manner to ensure a successful anniversary celebration.
However, the Institutional Advancement Office, headed by Rev. Justice Boffah Pokumensah has been appointed to be the Administrative Secretariate for the anniversary celebrations.
