The Conundrum of Power: The Old Order, Gives Way To The New As CSUC SRC Holds Handing Over Ceremony! – Story by IAO

It is espoused in the book of Ecclesiastes that there is time for every activity under the heavens. The ascending and descending in student leadership positions on campus is no exception. After what must have been a successful one-year term in office, the SRC administration led by H.E. Emmanuel Amegavi Sosu handed over office to the administration led by Samuel Adjei in a colourful but emotional ceremony on campus over the weekend. It will be recalled that just before school went on the second semester recess, the SRC held a very competitive election that resulted in the emergence of new leaders to direct student council affairs for the 2023/24 academic year.

Address by Outgoing President

IMG_0058H.E. Emmanuel Amegavi Sosu, who served as SRC President for the 2022/23 academic year, began his speech by eulogizing the entire student body of CSUC for their unflinching support throughout their tenure. He took the opportunity to report on the many projects his administration had embarked on and tasked the new administration with standing the ground and elevating CSUC to a higher development pedestal. Key achievements mentioned included: organization of the Achievers Summit in partnership with TIKVAH Africa; signed a Memorandum of Understanding with PP Savani University in India to offer student exchange programmes; hosting the first Ashanti Regional Private University Alliance (ARPUA) games; participating in the  McDan Youth Connect event at KNUST and conducted a comprehensive review of the SRC Constitution. The other achievements listed were working with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) on the Tertiary Student Drive Project (TertSDrive) to provide hassle-free driver’s licenses to tertiary students; Conducting the Traditional Day and initiating the Students’ Arena Project which is 80% complete.

Of course, he could not end his speech without acknowledging the support of the University College leadership in their oversight of administration, even though the road was not quite so rosy. He highlighted the crucial role the Dean of Students played during their tenure and commended her for her forthrightness.

The Swearing in Oath

IMG_0004As is tradition, the outgoing President takes the oath of office to the new leaders, after which the objects of power are transferred to mark the beginning of a new era. This process went smoothly and without any encumbrance. The paving was carried out until the official assumption of office by the new administration

Acceptance Speech

H.E. Samuel Adjei, who represented the new team as SRC President, thanked God for the opportunity to serve the students CSUC. He expressed his deepest gratitude to the outgoing SRC administration and acknowledged the support they had received since the EC led by Issah Musah announced the election results. In the meantime, he pledged to present his vision to the entire university community in due course and repeatedly assured that he would not disappointIMG_0130
