Minority Leader Cautions Against Legalizing Homosexuality

The Minority Leader in Parliament, Mr. Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu has described as unacceptable and abominable, the practice of homosexuality. Mr. Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu said no law or custom permitted the practice of homosexuality in Ghana, and therefore called on political, religious and traditional leaders, and all and sundry to resist any attempt to legalize such vile act.

The Minority Leader was speaking during the launch of a seminar series programme dubbed, “Mirror of Life Seminar Series.” The programme was organised by the Department of Theology of CSUC on the theme, “Science and Homosexuality.”

Delivering the main address, Dr. K. E. K. Aboah, Consultant Surgeon, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital said the current position of the law on homosexuality was unclear, and called for stringent laws that would make the practice of homosexuality illegal and criminal.

Dr. Aboah, who is also a Council Member of CSUC, cited the country’s senior high schools (SHSs) as the main breeding grounds of homosexuality. Others were the internet, films, tourism and domestic marital problems. He also mentioned HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis A, B and C, drug abuse and reduced life span as some health problems associated with the practice of homosexuality.

According to Mrs. Christine A. Glover, Head of Theology Department, the “Mirror of Life Seminar Series addresses issues on young people’s perspective on faith and practice; theology of God’s intentions and of hope; sexuality and faith; multi-faith society and gender issues as well as practical life-changing testimonies.

“The objective of the Mirror of Life Seminar Series is in line with CSUC’s aim of promoting knowledge about Christ through the training of men and women with moral uprightness, academic excellence, and passion to serve and transform society,” Mrs. Glover added.

The immediate past President of CSUC, Prof. Emmanuel Frempong, who was also the Special Guest of Honour officially launched the Mirror of Life Seminar Series.
