CSUC has launched its premier home health care programme. The programme seeks to complement personal care given to patients by mainstream hospitals in the Ashanti Region.
According to Prof. Sam Afrane, president of CSUC, the programme is the first of its kind in the region. It has been approved by the Regional Health Directorate. It is staffed by two senior nurses and four ward attendants.
“It is part of CSUC’s effort to reach out to the community with the love of Christ in action by practically offering support to meet their personal health care needs” explained Prof Afrane,
Mrs. Theresa Sarpong, coordinator for the Programme added that it is meant to cushion mainstream hospitals by offering personal health care services to patients at home.
“The programme provides health care services such as mouthcare, wound care, personal care, blood pressure and blood sugar monitoring as well as drug administration following treatment by hospitals. What the programme seeks to do is continue with personal health care neds of patients who otherwise would have had to visit the hospital daily” Mrs. Sarpong further explained.
“In effect, CSUC home health care offers convenience and quality personal health care to patients at home. An added benefit is that the programme cuts down on waiting time ptients endure to see nurses at hospitals” added Mrs. Sarpong.
The programme coordinator added that the Programme is liaising with government hospitals within the Kumasi metropolis to refer patients who require personal health care support services but are unable to visit the hospital as scheduled.
The programme is currently attending to its first few patients and hopes to offer services to many more people.
